Hi, I’m Kat, a fertility specialist with over 20 years of experience supporting women and couples through the emotional and physical challenges of trying to conceive. The Science Behind Eating to Nourish Your Cycle

Your hormones shift week by week — and your body’s needs shift with them. When you eat in sync with these changes, you’re not just 'eating well,' you’re honouring your biology, your feelings, and your fertility.

Early Follicular (Days 1–7)

Menstruation. Hormones are at their lowest. The body is releasing and starting again.
This is a time of physical and emotional release. You might crave chocolate — not just for comfort, but because it’s rich in magnesium, which helps ease cramps and soothe mood. That’s no accident. Inside The Conception Kitchen, chocolate is absolutely celebrated. You'll also focus on iron-rich foods like lentils, leafy greens, and stews to replenish what’s been lost.

Late Follicular (Days 8–14)

Estrogen and FSH are rising. Follicles are growing. Your energy is building.
This is your fresh start. Focus on vibrant, light, and energising meals — colourful veg, omega-3s, and seeds to support estrogen metabolism and egg development. It’s a time for creativity and renewal, and your meals should reflect that.

Ovulatory Phase (Around Day 14)

Estrogen peaks. LH triggers ovulation. An egg is released.
You’re naturally more social and energised. Support this high point with antioxidant-rich foods (berries, broccoli, avocado), zinc for egg health, and plenty of hydration to help cervical mucus production. This is your fertile window — and your food can help you make the most of it.

Mid-Luteal (Days 15–21)

Progesterone rises. Your body prepares for implantation.
Now it’s all about calm and stability. Complex carbs, B6-rich foods (like bananas and chickpeas), and magnesium support hormone balance, mood, and the uterine lining. This is when emotional dips can start — gentle nourishment is key.

Late Luteal (Days 22–28)

If there’s no pregnancy, progesterone falls. PMS can kick in.
Cravings are real, and so are the emotions. Warm, grounding meals, blood sugar support, and soothing herbs (like ginger and cinnamon) help ease tension. You might feel the loss of another cycle — that’s why emotional care is just as important here. Chocolate? Still welcome.
